Medicaid provides for medically necessary health services to eligible recipients when transferring from one acute general hospital to another because the services (physician specialists, and/or intensity of services, and/or specialized equipment) are not available at the transferring hospital but are available at the receiving hospital.

Requests for approval of pre-transfers to another facility must be called in to Molina Healthcare TPA (505) 348-0311 (Albuquerque local) or (866) 916-3250 (outside of Albuquerque toll-free) on the day of transfer. If after hours, the call must be received by the next business day.
