Teens Need to Eat Healthy Too

Why is eating a healthy diet so important for teens? For starters, the food they eat affects their way of thinking, their school work, how they handle their feelings, how active they are, how strong they are, their weight and how healthy they will be later on in life.

Watch out for "Super Sizing" at the fast food places!

  • Try to avoid "Super Sizing"!
  • Drink more water than sodas
  • Try a side salad with low-fat dressing
  • Try a grilled chicken sandwich
  • When eating a submarine or deli sandwich, go without the dressings and cheese; ask for mustard or light mayonnaise instead, and load up on vegetables
  • Try the chicken or steak soft tacos; skip the sour cream and guacamole.
  • Order the small hamburger with lots of lettuce & tomato
  • Try a baked potato without the sour scream and margarine.
  • Try a low-fat frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream.
  • Order baked beans, corn on the cob, or mashed potatoes

If your teen is active in sports, they should drink lots of water!! Gatorade has a lot of sugar in it and is not as good as water to keep hydrated.

When eating at fast food restaurants, try one of these healthy choices:
