There are shots that teens need that many are not aware of. Some shots may be needed before school starts. Your teen might not be able to go to school if they are not up to date on their shots.
The list below will help to see what shots teens need.
| Tetanus and diphtheria booster (Td) |
Booster at 11 to 12 years old, if it has been at least 5 years since the last shot was given. |
| Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) |
A second dose no later than between 11 and 12 years of age. |
| Chickenpox (Varicella) |
One shot is needed for children under age 13; two shots given at least 4 weeks apart are needed for teens/adults 13 years of age or older. |
| Hepatitis B (Hep B) |
Three doses needed by the age of 18 years old; adults who have not had the hepatitis B vaccine series should get their shots if at risk. |
| Hepatitis A (Hep A) |
Some teens may be at risk and should get this shot. |
| Influenza (flu) |
Get yearly for certain high risk groups, including asthma, heart disease, sickle cell disease, HIV and diabetes. |
| Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV) |
Recommended for those aged 2 to 64 who have a chronic disease, do not have a spleen or have a damaged spleen, and who are Alaska Native or American Indian. |
