Molina Healthcare’s provider for transportation is called Integrated Transportation Management, Inc (ITM). If you need a ride to and from your provider's office, call ITM's Customer Service Center at 1-888-593-2052. If you have a Case Manager or Care Coordinator, they can assist you with any special needs. The key with getting transportation is good communication.
Transportation is for members who have no other means of getting to a doctor. Members who can transport themselves should do so. If you have been taking yourself to the doctor, you must continue to do so.
Transportation can only be used for medical needs. For example, Molina Salud does not cover transportation to the store or to visit a friend. ITM must call to check to see that your medical needs have been approved before they can approve transportation.
What are ITM's Hours of Operation?
ITM is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
ITM is open 24 hours a day for urgent calls only.
How do I get Routine Transportation?
You must call ITM Monday through Friday, at least 2 working days BEFORE your appointment. Keep in mind that routine Monday appointments must be set up for transport no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. You will need to tell them:
- Your address and phone number
- Your Social Security number
- Where you are going and who you will be seeing
- The doctor's address and phone number
- The day and time of your appointment
- And when the appointment was first scheduled
Once ITM has the information you will be informed of the type of transportation that will be authorized (taxi, bus, airplane, private vehicle etc.), if you are being picked up and the time you'll be picked up ITM routinely will call the doctor, clinic or hospital to verify your appointment
What if I have a need for urgent transportation?
ITM will ask you questions to figure out how urgent the transport is. ITM may also call your Doctor or the Health Plan for help making decisions about your needs. They are trying to figure out if you need an ambulance a cab or if a friend or family member can transport you. ITM is open 24 hours a day for urgent calls. Examples of questions they may ask you are listed below:
- Do you have a fever?
- Are you on oxygen?
- Do you use a wheelchair or walker?
An example of an urgent call would be a child who has a fever and a bad earache. She needs to have medical attention but does not need an ambulance.
Will Molina Salud pay me to use my own car for transport to medical appointments?
- Approval from ITM before you go to the appointment, at least 2 working days before your appointment.
- The same information is required for reimbursement as is required to request vendor transportation.
- An appointment that matches the day you are asking for Molina Salud to pay you back
- ITM will confirm that you went to the appointment soon after the day of the appointment.
- ITM calculates the mileage for your trip and reimburses you for those miles, there is no need to save gas receipts.
- When you'll get your reimbursement depends on the confirmation of the appointment but generally will be within 4 to 6 weeks after the date of the appointment.
What if I have been using my car and the day of my appointment the car breaks down?
- Your address and phone number
- Your Social Security number
- Where you are going and who you will be seeing
- The doctor's address and phone number
- The day and time of your appointment
It may not be possible to locate a transportation vendor in your area that can transport you on short notice. If not, ITM may ask you to try to reschedule your appointment if it is not urgent. You can call the doctor's office to see if it is possible to reschedule or you can ask ITM to assist you with the phone call.
Does Molina Salud pay for housing?
The transportation benefit can also reimburse you for lodging and some food if you go out of town for medical needs. This is only if the trip is longer than four hours one way by ground transport. All reimbursements must be approved by ITM before the trip. ITM has contracts with some lodging providers in some areas who can bill ITM directly for your lodging. ITM can reserve lodging for you if a contracted lodging facility is available in the area to which you are traveling. You will have to keep your receipts for lodging and food. The original of these receipts will have to go to ITM, so be sure to keep copies for your own records. ITM can tell you what amount they are allowed to reimburse for lodging and food. Lodging can sometimes be more complex than this. ITM will be happy to answer any questions about lodging, and where to send your receipts.
What if I need transport outside of New Mexico?
ITM generally does not have contracts with transport, lodging or food vendors outside of New Mexico. If the need to go out of State has been approved by the Medical Director at Molina Healthcare, a Case Manager or Care Coordinator will assist in making the arrangements. All reimbursements must be approved by ITM before the trip.
