Has Your Child Been to the
Doctor This Year?
It’s that time of year again! Your kids
return to school soon. There’s a lot
to do to help them get ready. Did you
put well-child exams on your list?
Yearly preventive health checkups are important for your child or teen. These visits are also called well-child exams. They make sure your child is healthy and growing well. Your child will have his or her height, weight, eyes, and blood pressure checked. The doctor will talk about safety, healthy food choices, and staying fit.
Teens need yearly checkups, too. The doctor will talk to your teen about “lifestyle” issues like eating disorders, drug and alcohol use, and depression. They will also talk about your teen’s school work.
The doctor will make sure your child or teen is up-to-date with all shots (immunizations). Shots protect your child against many harmful and even deadly illnesses. Be sure to take your child’s shot record with you for the doctor to see. The school will also need a copy of the completed record.
