Drug Formulary

The Molina Healthcare of New Mexico Drug Formulary was created to help ensure that our members are able to receive a variety of clinically effective medications. Molina understands that drug therapy is an integral component of your patient's comprehensive treatment program. This list of covered medications is the cornerstone for a progressive program of managed care pharmacotherapy.

GENERIC DRUG FORMULARY

Many medications are available as more economical generic versions of the original brand-name product. Generic drugs should be prescribed as first-line therapy whenever they can serve as therapeutically equivalent alternatives to similar brand-name drugs. Molina Healthcare only supports the use of quality generic products that have received an "AB" rating (highest bioequivalence) by the FDA.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently, most GENERIC PRODUCTS are included on the formulary and, as such, are not listed in a separate link due to the large number of medications marketed as generics.

BRAND-NAME DRUG FORMULARY

The list in the link below delineates the Molina Healthcare oral formulary drugs available as a "brand-name only" without prior authorization. These medications are not necessarily the preferred agents in any particular category. Prescribing a generic drug instead of these branded products is encouraged if the same clinical efficacy can be achieved. All medications are listed by brand name and organized within therapeutic classes. New dosage forms of formulary products (i.e., extended-release) are classified as non-formulary unless otherwise indicated in this listing.

OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUG FORMULARY

30-day supplies of the products on this list are considered part of the Molina Healthcare drug benefit when the same requirements for prescription drugs (e.g., written on a prescription blank) are met.
