In an effort to help residents in north central Washington, a region that is highly prone to wildfires every year, Molina Healthcare of Washington partnered with Moses Lake Community Health Center and other local organizations to host a wildfire preparedness event. Attendees assembled more than 150 preparedness kits, which included face masks for both adults and children, band aids and band aid dispensers.

The Moses Lake Fire Department provided wildfire-related coloring and activity sheets for the kids and the local chapter of the Red Cross provided a wildfire preparedness check list as well as information on making your home fire safe. Participants exchanged stories of fires they had experienced in previous years and shared that this event helped them feel prepared for the future.

“We were thankful for the opportunity to partner with these great local organizations to educate our community about an important topic that impacts many lives every year,” said Jorge Arturo-Rivera, director of community engagement at Molina Healthcare of Washington. “It is a priority for Molina to help equip our neighbors with the resources and education they need to improve their overall wellbeing and safety.”

The wildfire preparedness event concluded a month-long “Summer Days” campaign hosted by the Moses Lake Community Health Center and Molina Healthcare. In addition to fire safety information, the campaign highlighted the importance of preparing for the upcoming school year by completing well-child check-ups, dental check-ups, immunizations and sports physicals. Molina staff engaged with patients, answered questions and shared information on Molina’s services.
