Molina Healthcare of Texas recently presented a $7,500 check to the South Texas Food Bank in Laredo, where approximately 55 percent of the population lives below the poverty level. In addition to the check, Molina purchased new pots, pans and utensils for the food bank’s new kitchen. Through the organization’s unique program called “Adopt a Family,” Molina is also feeding four families for a year. This program provides 30-40 pounds of food per month, per family, helping to keep food insecurity at bay.

"We are very grateful to Molina Healthcare for their immeasurable support," stated Alma Boubel, South Texas Food Bank Executive Director. "Hunger is a very real problem in our community, and with the help that we are receiving from Molina Healthcare, we will be able to provide meals to many individuals and families in need."

According to Feeding America, 4,277,540 (one in seven) people are struggling with hunger in Texas, and of them 1,676,740 (one in four) are children. South Texas has the highest poverty rate in the state with between 30-53% of the population living under the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Molina is proud to support and fund the South Texas Food Bank and other food banks across the state of Texas, and has a dedicated community engagement team to help ease the burden of food insecurity in regions that need it most.
