Molina Healthcare Awarded Multicultural Health Care Distinction by NCQA

04/07/2016

Molina Healthcare, Inc. today announced that the widely respected National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has awarded the Multicultural Health Care Distinction to Molina Healthcare’s health plans in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin. Each health plan will receive accreditation for their Medicaid and Marketplace products, with the exception of South Carolina and Illinois. The South Carolina and Illinois health plans do not participate in the Health Insurance Marketplace and will receive accreditation for their Medicaid health plans only.

“The prevalence of racial and ethnic disparities has been a barrier to improving the quality of health care of many Americans for too long,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “Organizations achieving Multicultural Health Care Distinction are leaders in closing this gap, and NCQA commends them for their dedication.”

The Multicultural Health Care program evaluates how well an organization complies with the standards for the following areas: collection of race/ethnicity and language data, provision of language assistance, cultural responsiveness, quality improvement of culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and reduction of health care disparities.

“We are honored that NCQA has recognized our efforts to provide individuals who are traditionally underserved with access to quality health care in a way that is most meaningful to them,” said J. Mario Molina, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Molina Healthcare. “Cultural sensitivity has always been an important role in determining how we do what we do. As a company committed to serving members that face many challenges, we understand the importance of breaking down cultural barriers and have worked hard to do so for more than 35 years.”
