Molina Healthcare Honors Six Local Heroes at its 8th Annual Community Champions Awards Event

Molina Healthcare of New Mexico recently honored six local heroes at its 8th annual Community Champions Awards. The dinner and ceremony was held at the Hyatt Albuquerque.

The six winners who were recognized for making the lives of individuals and families in New Mexico better included:

  • Malcolm Fell, a 96-year-old volunteer for the Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity who still spends weekends building houses for those in need
  • Joe Travis, who has dedicated much of his life to improving the lives of the HIV/AIDS community in New Mexico
  • Ann Edenfield Sweet, founder of Wings for L.I.F.E., which supports the children and families of the incarcerated
  • Desiree Woodland, a mother and longtime teacher who established Breaking the Silence New Mexico, the only mental health curriculum available in the state
  • Carol M. Pierce, a public health and nursing professional who has volunteered for organizations that benefit the homeless, those without healthcare, previously incarcerated returning citizens, the poor and those with developmental disabilities
  • Yolanda Diaz, founder of Cancer Aid Resource and Education, Inc. (CARE), an organization that provides financial support for cancer patients and their families

Each of the winners received a Community Champions Awards trophy and a $1,000 check to donate to a nonprofit organization of their choice.
