Molina Healthcare is holding our 4th annual Community Champions Facebook Challenge, and this year, we are giving every state a chance to earn extra money for the worthy causes their Community Champions support. Each state that held a Community Champions Awards event selected one winner to represent them for this challenge and they each get a 24-hour period to get as many likes as possible. Each like or share on the Molina Facebook post during that period equals $1 to be donated to the organization of their choice, up to $1,000.
Molina Healthcare has selected Hazel Poole as its Community Champion to represent Virginia in the Facebook challenge. Hazel Poole is a 90-year-old volunteer who took the initiative to begin a tutoring program at Greenspring Retirement and has helped to connect over 200 students with free tutoring services through the residents there who are now retired. Previously these residents had worked as engineers, teachers or business professionals and still had vast knowledge to share. Additionally, Poole organized an ESL program for the diverse group of employees at Greenspring. She coordinates three 10-week courses per year, which have helped over 280 employees learn English and other vital communication skills. Upon completion of the Greenspring ESL courses, many employees have used their newfound skills to apply for promotions or citizenship, helping to improve their quality of life.
