07/11/2016

Molina Healthcare of South Carolina recently donated $23,000 to FoodShare Columbia, a program launched to increase access to fresh produce to low-income individuals. The donation will be used to hire an outreach employee who will work to actively engage the community. FoodShare addresses chronic health conditions by providing affordable fresh food boxes and by offering regular food demonstrations. Since its launch in April 2015, FoodShare has served more than 922 families with more than 30,000 pounds of food.

“We are committed to building a long-term partnership with FoodShare as their incredible work to help improve the lives and overall health of our community members closely aligns with Molina’s ongoing mission of serving the underserved,” said Tom Lindquist, president of Molina Healthcare of South Carolina.

Funding for FoodShare has come from the University Of South Carolina School of Medicine, which hosts the program, and Palmetto Health. Molina is the first health insurer to donate funds.
