For the 10th year in a row, Molina Healthcare of Michigan recently recognized local heroes at its annual Community Champions Awards. Each of the six winners received a $1,000 grant to donate to a deserving nonprofit organization as part of his/her reward. All of the honorees were nominated by community-based organizations.

This year’s Community Champions winners and their grantees were:

  • Phil Shaltz and Angie Hendershot, Flint Diaper Bank
  • Dr. Teresa Holtrop, Advantage Health Centers Reach Out and Read Program
  • Pastor Alonzo Bell, Redeem DETROIT Programs
  • Amy Peterson, Rebel Nell
  • Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, Kids Kicking Cancer

Molina’s Community Champions program was created to honor Molina Healthcare founder Dr. C. David Molina and his mission to serve the most vulnerable in our communities.

The awards ceremony was held at The Colony Club in Detroit and included an invocation by Pastor Alonzo Bell of Martin Evans Missionary Baptist Church and entertainment by Civic Jazz Orchestra from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Wu Family Academy.
