Why is this change occurring?
Molina Healthcare of Michigan is one of the largest health plans in Michigan. We are a well-known health plan with many doctors statewide. While HAP Midwest is no longer available in your area, Molina Healthcare of Michigan will continue providing the same high quality customer care to their Medicaid, MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan or Children’s Special Healthcare Services members.

How does this change affect my family and me?
This does not change anything for you and your family at this time. You will still receive your Medicaid, MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan or Children’s Special Healthcare Services. Until the change is in effect on January 1, you can continue using your HAP Midwest ID card.

Will my Provider participate with Molina?
Molina Healthcare has a contract with most providers in the HAP Midwest network.

What happens to me if my provider chooses not to participate with Molina?
If your PCP (primary care provider) or medical group leaves the network, you will be notified. Please don’t worry, as our member services team can help you find a new PCP. Keep in mind, you may change your PCP for any reason, at any time.

I currently have an approved authorization (PA) on file; will that be honored once this change takes place?
We are currently working with HAP Midwest to help us honor existing Prior Authorizations. In most cases, we will honor a 90-day continuation of care.

How do I know what benefits are available from Molina?
We offer the same Medicaid benefits as HAP Midwest. You will receive a Welcome Kit with all benefit information. There are also great benefits like referral-free doctor visits to network providers, zero copays for any medications, online access to your medical information – such as your PCP and to request updates to your membership information as well as access to our Nurse Advice Line, 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

If you would like to know about a specific medical benefit, please visit our Benefits section.

Will I lose any of my current benefits once this change takes place?
No, you will still receive your Medicaid, MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan or Children’s Special Healthcare Services benefits. Until the change is in effect on January 1, you can continue using your HAP Midwest ID card.

I don’t know much about Molina and I really don’t want to change. Can I remain with HAP Midwest?
If you currently receive services for Medicaid, MIChild, Healthy Michigan or Children’s Special Healthcare Services from HAP Midwest, those services will be changing to Molina Healthcare of Michigan as of January 1, 2016. HAP Midwest will no longer be providing Medicaid, Healthy Michigan, or Children’s Special Healthcare Services in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Washtenaw Counties beginning in January.

All HAP Midwest members transitioning to Molina Healthcare may see their physicians and specialists under continuity of care guidelines.

What happens if I have a Prior Authorization from HAP Midwest?

  • Authorizations provided by HAP Midwest will be honored for 90 days by Molina Healthcare.
  • Molina Healthcare may not have the same authorization guidelines in place and never requires a referral for in-network providers.
