The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has designated the month of March as the time to celebrate healthy eating and the positive impact good nutrition has on our health and well-being. This year the theme for National Nutrition Month is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.” This theme encourages us to include the foods we love as part of a healthy eating plan that is tailored specifically for our lifestyle, health needs, cultural and traditional practices as well as tastes. Today, with so many food options, we have the flexibility to create a colorful eating plan that can still meet our nutritional needs within calorie limits.
The key is variety, moderation and portion size. How does your eating plan rate? Visit here to rate your plate: http://www.eatright.org/nnm/games/quiz/index.html. For information on healthy eating and sample eating plans go to www.choosemyplate.gov.
This theme reminds us that the foods we love, as well as those that are a part of our cultural and traditional practices, can all fit in a balanced and healthy eating plan.
