Laughter - Get your Daily Dose!

We all know that eating a healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables and getting exercise are great ways to improve our health. But one thing you might not expect to benefit your health, but can have a significant positive impact, is laughter. Laughing not only forces you to smile, and hopefully feel happier for at least a short period, but it can actually physically alter your body in ways you might not expect.

Laughter can:

  1. Engage your abdominal muscles and diaphragm, as well as the muscles in your face, burning calories and strengthening muscles
  2. Improve blood flow
  3. Reduce stress
  4. Improve your immune system
  5. Increase alertness and creativity All of these benefits have been found in studies to varying degrees and may be correlated to a good sense of humor and a positive attitude. But, if it can help just a little bit, I say it is worth a try.
