MolinaHealthcare of Texas recently partnered with Lunches of Love, a non-profitorganization that provides free, nutritious sack lunches to kids in Fort BendCounty during extended school holidays and weekends.

Molinaemployee volunteers helped make sandwiches, assemble lunches, and prep fruit. Afterlunch was served to kids on-site, Molina volunteers personally delivered lunchesto families in low-income housing in the surrounding area.

“Inseveral cities in Bend County, a large percentage of children (over 87% at Title1 schools) qualify for free and reduced-price lunches during the school year,” saidSheila Shelton, director of community engagement for Molina Healthcare ofTexas. “Many of these children would go hungry or experience inadequatenutrition without organizations like Lunches of Love, and we’re pleased tosupport their efforts.”

“Texasranks third in the nation for food insecurity, meaning one in five adults andone in four children in the state are hungry, and that is simply unacceptable,”said Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.
