​Molina Provides Back-to-School Basics for Families in Need

A new school year brings excitement, sparked by the thrillof back-to-school shopping. However, for many at Redwood Elementary School andthe surrounding West Valley community, the start of the school year insteadmeans added expenses and overwhelming stress to somehow make ends meet.

Molina Healthcare of Utah recently partnered with RedwoodElementary, Granite Education Foundation, and Salt Lake City Mission to host aback-to-school event, aiming to reach more in the community and alleviateback-to-school burdens. The event provided hundreds of families and individualswith basics from school supplies and haircuts to immunizations and mentalhealth resources.

Inside Redwood Elementary, each student got a haircut and pickedup a new pair of shoes and new backpacks filled with school supplies to kickoff the year. Students also received resources from the YMCA, Community NursingServices, Salt Lake County Libraries, and West Valley City.

Outside the school, adult community members received new shoesand haircuts, plus food, face painting, and bounce houses for all to enjoy.West Valley City Police and Fire departments also provided resources and trucktours.

“Molina Healthcare of Utah is pleased to provide a new pairof shoes, socks, and underwear to all 610 Redwood students,” said BrandonHendrickson, president of Molina Healthcare of Utah. “Molina is committed toensuring that children have the necessary resources for a good education. Weare proud to be a part of an event that connects families with a variety ofservices, making Salt Lake City stronger.
