Due to Overwhelming Response, Molina Healthcare of South Carolina to Holds Second Community Baby Shower in Goose Creek for Expectant Mothers

GOOSE CREEK, SC, Aug.23, 2024 –  Molina Healthcare of South Carolina (“Molina”), in partnership with Healing Hurts Ministries, held its second baby shower this summer to distribute infant essentials to more South Carolina families. The previous community baby shower in June drew over 300 attendees, well beyond the expected participation, exhausting the supply of free giveaways. To help more families, the community partners organized a second event for an additional 100 expectant moms. Participants received free baby clothes, wipes, diapers and more. Local community agencies will be on hand with important postpartum information. Some in attendance also won a car seat, stroller or a crib.

“We were overwhelmed by the need we saw in the community and wanted to do more to help as many families as possible,” said David Irizarry, senior specialist for growth and community engagement, Molina Healthcare of South Carolina. “Some families are deciding between buying food or buying diapers and other baby essentials. We want to help alleviate that burden.”

According to data from the National Diaper Bank’s Diaper Check report, 1 in 2 families cannot afford enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry and healthy. Nearly 30% of families in the report said they skipped meals so they could afford diapers. A year’s supply of diapers can cost over $1,000.
