It is even more important to get your flu shot this year because of the spread of COVID-19. Getting your flu shot will not reduce your chance of getting COVID-19, but it will protect against the flu and co-infection. Reducing your risk of getting the flu will help you stay healthy and help reduce the burden to the healthcare system.
The flu and COVID-19 can lead to pneumonia, severe shortness of breath, blood infections and other serious illness.
Who should get a flu shot? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend everyone six months and older get a flu shot. People with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDs, or women who are pregnant are at a higher risk for the flu.
What should you do to stay healthy during flu season?
- Get the flu shot – it is free and available at your doctor or pharmacy. If you are an adult and allergic to eggs, there is now a flu shot without egg products that is safe for you. If you are age 65 or older, ask for the high dose flu shot for the added protection you need as an older adult.
- Go to the doctor or pharmacy. Your doctors and pharmacies have taken steps to make their locations safe for your visit.
- Call your primary care provider to schedule a visit and find out more about the flu shot.
- Call the Member Services number on the back of your ID card for an approved Molina pharmacy. The flu shot is free when you go to a Molina Healthcare network pharmacy.
- Stay home if you are ill and stay away from sick or “high risk” people. These illnesses are spread by coughing, sneezing or other contact with mucus or saliva.
- Wash your hands often, with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you are unable to wash your hands, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
