Maternal Health Support
Molina Healthcare of Florida Maternal Health Program
Molina Healthcare of Florida participates in From the Start, a statewide maternal health initiative led by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) through Florida Medicaid and managed care health plans. Our comprehensive maternal health program is designed to support OB/GYN practices, pediatricians, and other providers caring for pregnant and postpartum Molina members — from pregnancy through the first year postpartum.
Care Management & Care Coordination
Molina's Maternity Care Management program provides individualized support for high-risk and rising-risk pregnant members. Our multidisciplinary Care Management team works alongside the clinical team to address medical, social, and behavioral health needs — coordinating with OB practices, specialists, and community organizations to reduce care gaps and ensure continuity of care.
Providers are encouraged to refer high-risk patients directly to Molina's Care Management team for proactive outreach and enhanced support. Key high-risk criteria include maternal age under 17 or over 35, multiple gestation, history of pregnancy complications, chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or kidney disease, substance use, and infections including HIV and hepatitis C.
Eligibility & Continuity of Care
Molina's Care Management team works to maintain member Medicaid eligibility throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. Providers can support this effort by flagging patients who may need eligibility assistance and ensuring timely claims submission. Molina assists members in navigating DCF communications and keeping contact information current to avoid lapses in coverage.
Provider Incentives
Molina offers standardized provider incentives aligned to the AHCA Maternal Health Campaign:
| Incentive | Amount | Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Notice of Pregnancy (NOP) submission within 30 days | $50 | Per submission |
| SBIRT (Substance Use Screening) completion | $50 | Per completed screening |
| HEDIS Prenatal Care Measure compliance | $50 | Per compliant member |
| HEDIS Postpartum Care Measure compliance | $50 | Per compliant member |
Incentive methodology is being finalized in alignment with CMS rules and AHCA guidance. Providers will be notified of final terms.
Enhanced Access & Community Resources
Molina provides a range of enhanced benefits and community partnerships to support pregnant and postpartum members:
Doula Support — Molina provides unlimited doula visits to eligible members through our partnership with Mae, which offers trained doula matching, prenatal education, lactation support, and care coordination. Doulas complement, but do not replace, the clinical care team. Referrals can be made through Molina's Care Management team.
Telehealth — Molina reimburses for real-time video and telephonic telehealth visits for prenatal monitoring and postpartum follow-up.
Twentyeight Health — Molina partners with Twentyeight Health to provide covered virtual reproductive healthcare, including birth control, prenatal vitamins, pregnancy tests, and STI treatment, for members who face barriers to in-office visits.
Healthy Start — Molina maintains formal partnerships with Healthy Start Coalitions for referrals to home visiting programs, prenatal education, and lactation support. Providers may refer patients directly or through Molina's Care Management team.
WIC — Providers are encouraged to discuss WIC eligibility with pregnant patients. WIC provides healthy foods, nutrition counseling, and breastfeeding support at no cost to eligible members.
Breastfeeding & Lactation Support
Molina coordinates access to lactation education and breastfeeding support through covered benefits, Care Management, and community partnerships. Services may be delivered virtually or in person and include prenatal breastfeeding education, postpartum support, and assistance with latch, milk supply, and pumping. Molina is evaluating earlier breast pump distribution — prior to hospital discharge or during prenatal care — to support breastfeeding initiation.
Providers are expected to offer breastfeeding education and support as part of routine maternity and postpartum care. Molina also encourages pediatric physicians to screen postpartum mothers for depression using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) at the baby's newborn visit to support early identification and timely referral to behavioral health services.
