Understanding STIs for a healthier you

Taking care of your sexual health helps you stay healthy. Here are a few simple steps that can help you live a healthier and happier life!

Learning about STIs

STIs are infections that are transmitted through sexual contact. Unprotected sex can put you and your partner at risk of STIs. Examples of STIs are chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes and human papillomavirus (HPV). Some STIs may not show any signs. Testing is the only way to find out if you have one. Many STIs can be treated with antibiotics. STIs like HIV, herpes and HPV can’t be cured. Treatment can help manage the symptoms of these illnesses.

Staying safe

Practicing safe sex protects both you and your partner from STIs. Always use a condom when you have sex.

Getting tested for STIs is one way you can take care of your sexual health. Regular testing helps find infections early. Many STIs can be treated when they are found early. Find out more information about STI testing here

Having honest conversations about STIs and sexual health may be hard, but it’s essential to staying healthy. It also helps get rid of the stigma around these topics. Talking to your partner about sexual health and STIs clearly and openly help keep you and your partner safe. Make sure you talk to your doctor about sexual health, too!
