How Medicaid eligibility works

The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) runs New Mexico’s Medicaid program. To qualify, you must live in New Mexico, be a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, have or apply for a Social Security number, and meet income limits. Some people qualify because of age, pregnancy, disability, or need for long-term care.

Common groups include:

  • Adults ages 19 to 64 who are not on Medicaid
  • Children and teens
  • Pregnant women
  • Caretaker relatives
  • People who are 65 or older
  • People who are visually impaired or who have a disability
