How your pharmacy benefit works

The drug list shows the medicines your Medicaid plan covers.

Your prescription must:

  • Be on the state Comprehensive Drug List (also called a PDL, CDL or formulary)
  • Be prescribed by a provider who works with the Medicaid program
  • Be filled at a pharmacy that works with the Medicaid program

Some medicines have rules, such as:

  • Age limits
  • Limits on how much you can get
  • Limits on how soon you can refill
  • A generic or biosimilar must be used
  • You must try one drug before another
  • Prior authorization (your provider must ask for approval first)

There is no cost to you for covered medicines.

If you need help, call Member Services at (855) 882-3901 (TTY: 711) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.

How the drug list works

Your state’s drug list contains medicines covered by your health plan. To see if your medicine is covered, use the drug look up tool or view your state’s drug list

  • Most long-term drugs can be mail to you. Approved orders arrive within 10 days.

Outside your service area, drugs are covered for emergencies only.
