Your Medicaid eligibility and enrollment in South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) decides if you qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid is called Healthy Connections in South Carolina. If you are approved for Medicaid, you can choose Molina Healthcare of South Carolina as your health plan.

Check eligibility 

Have this information ready when you apply or renew:

  • Social Security numbers (or immigration document numbers, if you have them)
  • Job and wage information for your household
  • Health plan policy numbers, if you have other health insurance coverage

After you join: Once you are approved, choose Molina Healthcare of South Carolina as your health plan. It may take up to 45 days for your membership to start.

After you are enrolled: We mail your ID card and welcome packet within seven days. Your packet explains how to use your benefits.

If it is time to renew your Medicaid coverage, follow these steps:

If your baby is born while you are a Molina member

If you are a Molina member when your baby is born, your newborn is covered for the birth month and is enrolled in Molina automatically. You can change your baby’s health plan during the first three months of life.
