Blood Glucose Meter Safety Alert and New Covered Options:
In April 2026, the FDA announced the most serious recall for all TRUE METRIX blood sugar meters. This recall happened because of a software problem that can show an ‘E-5’ error. This error may suggest very high blood sugar (over 600 mg/dL) or a problem with the test strip. These errors could delay treatment or cause the wrong amount of insulin to be used. Based on this recall and to ensure all our members have safe and effective blood sugar monitoring, Molina has decided to add ACCU-CHEK glucometers and test strips to formulary so members have other options for testing their blood sugar levels. Please call your provider and ask them to prescribe a new Accu-Chek meter and strips.
