The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation Donates $20,000 to Broken Men Foundation’s Youth Mentoring Program

02/28/2024

RICHMOND, Va. – Feb. 28, 2024 – The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Virginia (“Molina”), is donating a $20,000 grant to The Broken Men Foundation to support its youth mentoring curriculum. The Broken Men Foundation is dedicated to rehabilitating young men with behavioral issues, while providing emotional and professional support.

The 20-week mentoring program offers males ages 11 to 17 a structured curriculum to learn essential skills, including resume building, financial literacy, vehicle maintenance, and CPR training. The Broken Men Foundation also provides stipends to pay for college preparation services, scholarships, school lunch, and educational programming.

The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation’s donation also funds conflict resolution training as well as trauma and family intervention counseling for at-risk youth. Recent data show over 19% of Virginia youth experienced a major depressive episode at least once in the past year. The study also indicates childhood depression is more likely to persist into adulthood if left untreated.

“Molina is pleased to support this effort to help young men thrive,” said Bill Phipps, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Virginia. “Education and financial stability are positive social determinants of health, and this mentorship program will help guide participants to healthier outcomes in life.”

“The Broken Men Foundation helps young men around the Richmond region with emotional stability, provides a support system, and teaches problem-solving skills to program participants,” said Ellery Lundy, founder and president of Broken Men Foundation. “We recognize the struggle youth have with mental health and well-being, and our programs have proven successful for the betterment of young men across the Richmond region.”

Over 100 participants have completed the youth mentoring program. This grant will allow Broken Men Foundation to expand its services to help uplift and support young men in Richmond.
