How Medicaid eligibility works

AHCCCS runs Arizona's Medicaid program. To qualify, you must live in Arizona, be a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, have or apply for a Social Security number, and meet income limits. Some people qualify because of age, pregnancy, disability or need for long-term care. Common groups include:

  • Adults ages 19 to 64 who are not on Medicaid
  • Children and teens
  • Pregnant women
  • Caretaker relatives
  • People who are 65 or older
  • People who are blind or who have a disability
  • People who need long-term care through ALTCS
  • Children with certain chronic rhinosinusitis conditions
  • Women screened for breast or cervical cancer
  • Working individuals with a disability (freedom to work)
