The MolinaCares Accord Invests Over $700,000 in MolinaCares for a Healthy Florida Initiative to Improve Health Outcomes for Underserved Floridians


MIAMI, Sep. 14, 2023 – The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Florida (“Molina”), has launched its MolinaCares for a Healthy Florida initiative with an initial commitment of $700,000 to improve Floridians’ overall health and well-being. This initiative funds the work of area community-based organizations supporting underserved populations.

“The MolinaCares for a Healthy Florida initiative is connecting Floridians with community partners that are focused on building healthy and resilient communities,” said Mike Jones, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Florida. “Supporting the work of these grassroots organizations builds upon our ongoing commitment to increase access to care for all Floridians.”

MolinaCares for a Healthy Florida will support community-based nonprofits addressing root causes of poverty and the resulting inequities. These organizations support communities by improving access to food, housing, employment, health care, transportation, parenting resources, and other basic needs. 

Notably, MolinaCares recently granted $200,000 to bring Family Scholar House to Florida. Family Scholar House has over 25 years of experience serving individuals and families in need of support services. The MolinaCares grant will provide single-parent families access to resources to improve their self-sufficiency and economic well-being.

In addition to Family Scholar House, MolinaCares for a Healthy Florida supports the following organizations and projects throughout the state:

  • Little Smiles – to provide emergent, non-medical support to homeless, displaced, and abused children in collaboration with law enforcement;

  • Women in Distress – to provide domestic violence survivors in Broward County with financial skills and connections to empower them to live more safely and independently;

  • Community Based Connections – to support a fatherhood mentoring program that equips fathers with the skills and resources they need to enhance active, positive engagement with their children;

  • Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies of Broward County – to provide mental health counseling, doula services, care for pregnancy health conditions, parenting and breastfeeding education, and more to pregnant women in the community;

  • Farm Share – to support fresh and nutritious food distribution in all 67 Florida counties;

  • Charlotte County Homeless Coalition – to address the root causes of generational poverty by working with individuals to develop permanent, realistic solutions towards long-term financial stability;

  • Branches – to provide one-on-one financial coaching, transportation solutions and career training in Miami-Dade County;

  • Florida Coalition to End Homelessness – to train individuals to help those experiencing homelessness navigate the health care system and provide employment and technical skills training;

  • Reach St. Pete – to support its Pop-Up Pantry, a mobile unit providing fresh food for communities in food deserts. The pantry is open twice a month, serving 150-300 clients daily;

  • Lee and Collier County Homeless Coalitions – to help housing insecure individuals build life plans and increase access to shelter, housing, and social service benefits;

  • March of Dimes – to supply materials and training needed to address pressing maternal and child health needs; and

  • Camillus House – to provide housing and training for education, employment, and life skills. 

MolinaCares recently donated $250,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund, the state’s official fund which supports response and recovery activities in times of emergency or disaster, in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia. Last year, MolinaCares donated $300,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund, Farm Share, Harry Chapin Food Bank, and Latino Leadership in response to Hurricane Ian’s devastating impact on Florida communities.
