Molina Healthcare of Florida Partners with Young Dreams Community Outreach Start Motorcycle for Motorcycle Safety Program for Teen Drivers

MIAMI – Young Dreams Community Outreach and the Florida Highway Patrol launched a new motorcycle safety and awareness program for teens. Thanks, in part, to a grant from Molina Healthcare of Florida (“Molina”), Respect the Ride will educate young drivers about the importance of sharing the road with motorcycles.On February 7, 2021, Luis Rivera was fatally struck while riding his motorcycle. Police say a vehicle that did not yield properly, failed to see him approaching while crossing an intersection. Jordana Zarut, Rivera’s widow and founder of Young Dreams Community Outreach, started the program to help prevent future tragedies for Florida families.
“Young people can acquire their driver’s permit and license without being educated about how to share the road with a motorcyclist and we want to bridge that gap in awareness, said Zarut. “We are grateful for the support of the Florida Highway Patrol and Molina Healthcare of Florida for its support in keeping motorists safe.”
Respect the Ride focuses on three main topics: recognizing motorcyclists on the road, sharing the road safely, and preventing common causes of vehicle vs. motorcycle accidents. The Florida Highway Patrol estimates 300,000 motorcyclists share the road with cars and trucks each day in south Florida.
