LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 27, 2023 — The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Passport by Molina Healthcare (“Passport”), presented a $10,000 grant to Metro United Way in support of its Black L.O.V.E. (Live, Own, Vote, Excel) Philanthropic Partnership (“BLPP”). The initiative aims to address racial inequality by funding multiple area organizations addressing gaps in education, mental and physical health, food access and more.  

According to the CDC, the average life expectancy of the Black population in the United States is four years lower than that of white Americans. Recent data from the Kentucky Department of Education shows students in Louisville who are economically disadvantaged are scoring 50% lower than those not deemed disadvantaged. And 90,000 Louisvillians are considered food insecure. 
 
BLPP uses philanthropic resources, such as this donation offered by the Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, to invest in the growth of the seven core areas recommended by the Black Social Change Funders Network to correct systemic inequality. In all, 19 community organizations and agencies are funded by the program. 

“The health and well-being of a community begins with fulfilling the basic needs of its people and this program brings equity to underserved populations,” said Ryan Sadler, plan president of Passport by Molina Healthcare. “The Metro United Way has developed an innovative approach to addressing these issues and we are proud to support this effort.”

BLPP also supports community-based organizations outside of Metro Louisville, including Shelby County, Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
