Summary of Doula Services

Effective January 1, 2023, Molina Healthcare of California (MHC) provides doula services for prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum Medi-Cal members.

Doulas offer various types of support, including comfort measures, perinatal guidance, health navigation, assistive services, community-based resources, behavioral health services, and more.

  • Step 2: Collect/verify recommendations

    Doulas must retain a record of the licensed provider’s recommendation prior to initiation of a member’s care, storing the record in a manner consistent with HIPAA requirements. The forms below are acceptable:

    Initial recommendations authorize:

    • • One initial prenatal visit;
    • • Eight visits during the perinatal period, including up to one year after pregnancy;
    • o Support during labor and delivery, miscarriage, or abortion;
    • • Two extended postpartum visits.
