Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) Services

What’s covered

Services are available at no cost to members for everyone on Medicaid from birth through the month of their 21st birthday. These checkups make sure your child is growing and getting the health care he or she needs.

It is very important that you get your child in for these checkups. Your child may look and feel well but still have a health problem. Your doctor can help find health concerns before they become bigger problems. These exams are important to make sure children are healthy and are developing physically and mentally.

Molina provides access to additional treatment and services for members under age 21; some of the tests and treatment may require pre-approval. Well-Child visits end on the month of the child’s 21st birthday.

The following services are covered by Molina:

  • Health screens
  • Physical exams
  • Vaccines (shots)
  • Lab tests, including blood lead level
  • Teaching about health topics
  • Hearing tests
  • Dental screenings
  • Vision screenings

When should members get care?

Mothers should have prenatal exams and children should have checkups at birth, 3-5 days of age and at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 months of age. After that, children should have at least one checkup per year.

Check out this helpful schedule from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Read here. These guidelines provide you with information about the health checkups and screenings your child needs to have and when he or she should get them.
